The identification and description of what the image is.

Iconography is about the rhetoric of images, that is it helps us know.......

 three different images can all mean the same.

This something that can only be communicated if the artist and the audience share the same background meaning there will be a similar cultural meaning. 

 Byzantine Portraiture 
Using symbols etc to signify more about the person. At this time they moved away from creating photograph-like paintings and used symbols and objects to add more to the painting. For example, the painting below could make you think the man is a shepherd due to the lamb around his neck and the staff. You may also believe the image is related to Christianity because of the cross, moving further we begin to think that may the man in the painting is meant to be a representation of Jesus. 
Metaphor 
A type of analogy where meaning is derived through association, comparison etc.
A bad metaphor can lead to confusion

Kandinsky's Experiment - Circle, Square, Triangle

Wassily Kandinsky, a student from Bauhaus, circulated a questionnaire trying to determine the universal response for the relationship between colour and form. The questionnaire consisted of three shapes, a triangle, square and circle, he recipient was then to colour each one with a different primary colour etc. Red, blue or yellow.  His questionnaire received a remarkable about of the same response. This may because those in the school had the same theoretical ideals. They believed that the triangle was yellow, square to be red, and the circle to be blue. This product influenced many projects in the early days of Bauhaus. Cinema4d - 3D Character

I first created a cube using the dimensions 400x100x200 and added segments 2x1x1. So I could see the segments I had to turn on 'Gourd Shading (lines)' which meant the separate polygons were visible. I right hand clicked on the object and when to 'make editable which means that I would be able to edit the object.  Making the centre two points selected using the points section tool I dragged it down 50/60 centimetres. I rotated round so I could see the top faces. In the tool bar I selected the faces two and selected the top two faces to begin to add more polygons onto my object. Right clicking brings up a menu, I selected extrude. When using the the extrude tool you would think you just drag the mouse in the direction you want extruding. This is not the case, to extrude correctly you need to drag the object to the right hand side while still holding the mouse button. I first extruded above what I alread...

Cinema4d - Logo

Today's lesson was the first time that I have ever played around with Cinema4D so it was all completely new. I learnt the basics of how to use the lights and cameras. I first created a logo using my initials but the file corrupted so was not able to render.  My second attempt I used some of my work from the 'Speculatry Futures'. On my timeline of women rights I created a diamond ring in illustrator, I then imported this file into C4d. My next step was to work out how to extrude the object. Adding a background and floor means that the ring will look like its in a space when rendering it out. I added a camera onto my composition to film the ring 360 degrees. Lighting was next on the list to do to ensure my object was visable. Before rendering I checked all the settings to make sure my final piece would look correct.
