Self Publishing - The Poster

Using the resources available we were asked to create posters, with simplicity in mind. Designers such as Anthony Burrill, Experimental Jetset and Hort create striking posters with the use of typography and simple colours. We where tasked to create posters from fortune cookies. A fortune cookie is a small biscuit containing a slip of  piece of  paper , or a "fortune", on which is an aphorism, or a vague prophecy. I opened my to read 'Find the silly in the serious'  After lesson I decided to play around with the piece on Indesign  and Illustration to see what else I could do with it.  We were then asked to create a poster using lyrics from 'This must be the place' given to us in groups: Home is where I want to be Pick me up and turn me round I feel numb - born with a weak heart  I guess I must be having fun The less we say about it the better  Make it up as we go along Feet on the ground Head in the sky  When I got...

Self Publishing - Poster Zine

Nick gave us photographs from our student ID's and asked as to deconstruct them and create a abstract piece. I then illustrated this art work.

Cinema4d - Textures and Patterns

During this class we looked into surfaces, deformers, particles and textures. My outcome is based on twisted geometry: I wasn't completely happy with the outcome of  this workshop as at the end it looks as if the balls have gotten stuck. and don't move in the way I wanted them too. Self Publishing - Zines

For our first workshop we had to create a Zine from the notes we made during the talk from the start of the lesson. The slide show gave us information on what Self Publishing is, the pros and cons, as well as how it has evolved over time. We were asks to expand in the context and iterate our ideas, the structure of the zine needed to be content specific From here we had to work in teams and take elements from our own work merging it with others to produce another piece.

AfterEffects - Exploring Geometry

In this workshop we were to explore geometry in relevance to AfterEffects. I chose to use a pink and white colour scheme to begin with but in my second attempt I used a simple black and white, which I believe looks more effective. I learnt the following techniques in the workshop: transitions such as Venetian blinds and how to distort objects. The wiggler was very simple to use once I got the hang of it.  First Attempt - Exploring Geometry from Jade Holmes on Vimeo . Workshop 1 - Second Attempt from Jade Holmes on Vimeo .

Cinema4d - Logo

Today's lesson was the first time that I have ever played around with Cinema4D so it was all completely new. I learnt the basics of how to use the lights and cameras. I first created a logo using my initials but the file corrupted so was not able to render.  My second attempt I used some of my work from the 'Speculatry Futures'. On my timeline of women rights I created a diamond ring in illustrator, I then imported this file into C4d. My next step was to work out how to extrude the object. Adding a background and floor means that the ring will look like its in a space when rendering it out. I added a camera onto my composition to film the ring 360 degrees. Lighting was next on the list to do to ensure my object was visable. Before rendering I checked all the settings to make sure my final piece would look correct. Once happy I rendered out and added the clip onto my Vimeo account.  Workshop 1- dimond ring from Jade Holmes on Vimeo .

Sara's Workshops - Improved Character

I decided I wanted to retry the character animation, I decided to create a cut little dinosaur and make him walk and talk. Looking on the Free music archive I found a song called Dinosaur which I have got my character to speak and then dance to the song. Character Edit Improved. from Jade Holmes on Vimeo .
