In Weimar, 1919, Bauhaus was founded by A German Architect names Water Gropius. The idea as to reimagine the material world in order to be able to reflect the unity of all the arts. This at the time was a radical concept. He created a curriculum based around craft, aiming to help designers and artists to become capable of creating a useful but beautiful objects, fitting in with the idea of creating a new living system. The school was moved in 1925 to Dessau, Gropius designed the new building to house his students of his movement. The school closed in 1933 due to German politic pressure.
I researched into some designs which have come out of bauhaus which are still being used now:
Above is Bauhaus Nesting tables, they were one of the many designs to come out of the school which are still popular today. Five tables are able to fit in the space of one making more space and room in your home in addition to it being a clever design. The use of colors with each table is something that was not introduced till decades are by Ray and Charles Eames.
In 1922 Josef Hartwig, a student from Bauhaus, created a chess set, each piece is designed to indicates the type of movement it is capable of. This is chess board is excellent for beginners as there is a constant reminder of what to do without having to refer to the instruction.
